Southborough Open Land Foundation asked me to alert members about a construction project at Beals Preserve that will restrict how the public accesses the trail for at least a few days.
Most of the preserved open space will remain accessible. And the public can still enjoy access from each of the parking areas. But, beginning on Sunday, a portion of the main path, “Old Farm Lane”, will be closed to the public for at least a few days. SOLF announced:
Please note that a major project on Old Farm Lane at Beals Preserve will start on Sunday, September 29 and last through at least Tuesday, October 1.
To address the spring and early summer wet area that starts about two hundred feet south of the kiosk, the trail will be improved in that area.
If you park at Main Street, please use the Meadow Trail to get access the rest of the property (after crossing the bridge and walking to the kiosk, bear right to go uphill through the meadow), and use the Lone Wolf Trail from the Upper Meadow to access the rest of Old Farm Lane, and the Riding Ring and Hickory Trails.
SOLF Trustee Eileen Samberg confirmed that the map I created (above right) to reflect the changes is accurate.
The temporary closure won’t impact the cleanup work the public is asked to help them with the day prior. For info on signing up to help clear trails and invasives, read that post here.
