Here are highlights of what’s happening around (or related to) our town this weekend through next weekend.

Saturday, September 28, 2024

  • Saturdays at Fay (9:00 – 10:00 am) @ Fay School: Children’s musician and fun on the playground for young children accompanied by their parents/guardians.. Registration is required. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Volleyball Clinic (9:00 – 10:00 am) @ Fay School: A free limited registration clinic for 8-12 year olds. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Yoga on the Trails for adults (9:00 – 10:00 am) @ Sudbury Reservoir Trail: Free event hosted by the Trails Committee. Participants are asked to bring a yoga mat, a towel to lay down on the ground, and a water bottle. Sign up and learn details here.

  • Finn Fall Festival (3:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Finn School: Annual SOS fundraising festival for Finn School families. Music, Food & Games
  • Northborough Applefest Fireworks and Family Fun (5:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School athletic fields: One of the biggest highlights of Northborough’s annual town festival was rescheduled due to the weather. Includes food vendors, music, face painting and fireworks. There is a $20 parking fee. For details, see related post.

Monday, September 30, 2024

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Ages 2-5 are invited for stories and a craft based on a weekly theme. No registration required. For details, see related post.
  • Knitting Club (1:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: Social knitting group — scheduled to meet weekly this summer. Beginners are welcome and supplies will be provided, though you can also bring your own and “any creation you are working on”.
  • Special Town Meeting (7:00 pm) @ Trottier Middle School: All registered Southborough voters are encouraged to attend to vote on decisions about zoning bylaws, budget expenses, borrowing, and more. This year, families can bring their kids. For details, see dedicated post and related coverage.

  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Ages 2-5 are invited for stories and a craft based on a weekly theme. No registration required. For details, see related post.
  • Bridge (12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group, welcoming new participants. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Trottier Musical 6th grade auditions (2:15 – 3:30 pm) @ Trottier: Auditions for Beauty & the Beast. For details, click here..
  • ARHS College Essay Brainstorming Workshop (2:30-3:30  pm) @ Algonquin, AWC (room d112):Any Algonquin student looking for guidance starting their college essay can come get free help from Algonquin Writing Center tutors. Make sure to sign-up for the afternoon or evening session as walk-in space will be limited.
  • Drop in Legos (3:30 – 4:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Meeting Room: Children are invited to build with Legos and display their creations in the Children’s Room. Legos will be provided. Parents or caregivers must stay with children.
  • ARHS College Essay Brainstorming Workshop (6:00 – 7:00  pm) @ Algonquin, AWC (room d112):Any Algonquin student looking for guidance starting their college essay can come get free help from Algonquin Writing Center tutors. Make sure to sign-up for the afternoon or evening session as walk-in space will be limited.
  • Cook Book Club (6:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: pick a recipe from a selected cookbook to make share at the gathering.   • Geeks Who Drink Trivia Night (8:00 – 10:00 pm) @ Owen O’Leary’s, 50 Turnpike Rd: Weekly Trivia game night with prizes. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Southborough cemetery, 11 Cordaville Road: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Tech Time (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Teen Room: Library staff will help patrons with questions about devices, library apps, research databases and more. This is a weekly drop-in opportunity. No registration necessary.
  • Young Scientists STEM Beginnings (1:15 – 2:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: This is a free 6-week in-person series for children, ages 3-6 to learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) concepts through hands-on activities, story time and simple experiments..   • Trottier Musical 7th & 8th grade auditions (2:15 – 3:30 pm) @ Trottier: Auditions for Beauty & the Beast. For details, click here.
  • DIY Gulbankian Workshop (6:30 pm) @ Gulbankian Florist, 40 Mt Vickery Rd: Create a Fall Rustic Box flower arrangement. There is a registration fee and attendance is limited. For details, see website.
  • Southborough Rotary Club (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Southborough. New and prospective members are always welcome. (Held on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month.)

  • NSBORO School Holiday: Northborough-Southborough public schools have no school today in honor of the religious holiday Rosh Hashanah
  • Mah Jongg (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: The weekly program would love new players to join. Feel free to stop by to watch or talk to one of the players to see if you would be interested. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Baby/Toddler Storytime (11:00 – 11:45 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: A weekly program for ages 0-2 years with their parents/caregivers. Each session will include puppets and music. No registration required. For details, see related post.
  • TLT Bracelets (4:30 – 5:30 pm) @ Southborough Library Main Floor: Volunteer program for ages 10-18 to make projects for others in need. This month volunteers will make Friendship Bracelets. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Sit & Knit (6:30 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: Semi-monthly program for ages 18+ to drop in and work on your latest knitting or crochet projects while you enjoy the company of fellow yarn crafters in a relaxed social setting. All levels are welcome but no formal instruction will be given.
