Robert L. Cunningham, 91, of Chatham, Massachusetts (formally of Southborough) passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024. He was a devoted husband and best friend to Marilyn (Finik) Cunningham. They were married for 55 years before her passing in 2017. Born in Beverly, Massachusetts on March 30, 1933, he was the son of the late Frank and Anne Mae (Regan) Cunningham. He was predeceased by his brothers Paul Black Cunningham, Belmont and J. Kevin Cunningham, North Attleborough. Robert is survived by his daughter Stephanie Cunningham, her husband Douglas Dixon, his granddaughter, Jamie Dixon of Framingham and his son, Robert Cunningham of Worcester.
Robert (Bob) was a Belmont High School Graduate Class of 1951 and an Alumnus of `Norwich University, he graduated Class of 1955. He served as a Sargent in the United States Army Tank Division. After a successful role as Division President at American Optical, Bob pursued his entrepreneurial dream as President & Owner of Cunningham Sales Lens Corporation, which he ran for over 30 years until his retirement on Cape Cod. Post retirement, Bob enjoyed reading, playing bridge with friends and volunteering. He belonged to the Chatham Men’s Club and was a volunteer for The Chatham Anglers, The Chatham Train Museum and Chatham Senior Center.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours to be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, from 5:00-7:00PM at the Morris-Johnston Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough, MA 01772 as well as the Funeral Mass celebrating his life on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 10:30AM at St. Anne Church, 20 Boston Rd., Southborough, MA.
