Southborough Safe Spaces is inviting the community to join them for their “first annual fundraiser” this month. Funds will aid their continuing work supporting and advocating for LGBTQIA+ youth.

The event is themed, “Transforming Lives: Transcending Limits by fundraising for tomorrow”. It will take place on Tuesday, December 17th from 6:00 – 9:00 pm in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church’s parish hall at 27 Main Street..

The group promotes:

Southborough resident and professional charity auctioneer Andy Saks will lead us through a spirited live auction, Fund-A-Cause paddle raise, and some really fun games. You can participate in the silent auction during the mocktail hour, a 50/50 raffle, and more!

The group is also seeking sponsors and direct donors to support their mission, which the website promotes is “to keep queer kids joyfully alive.”

For those not familiar with Southborough Safe Spaces, the group was launched in 2021 to support queer identifying youth, friends, their families. They welcome LGBTQIA+ tweens and teens in grades 6-12 and their allies from Southborough and other nearby towns.

The group, co-founded and led by Sarah Whiteman and Dawn Sorenson, holds regular youth meetings for the kids with fun activities, support meetings for parents, occasional festivities for families, and some outreach events. (You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram to find out about future events.)

The gatherings are usually held at St. Mark’s Church, but all faiths are welcome. (Or, as they put it on the website, they are “intentionally interfaith & spiritually inclusive”.)
