I’m sharing my recaps and favorite photos from festivities and sales over the weekend in Southborough.
Library Party & Sale
The Southborough Library held its annual party for kids to make ornaments and hang them on the holiday tree. (Though, many preferred to take them home to hang on their own tree!)
The Friends of the Southborough Library sponsors the annual party and holds our Holiday Book Sale alongside it, offering one free book per child. Here are my photo highlights from Saturday*:
Santa Day 2024
This year Southborough Kindergroup promoted that a surprise visitor would join the crowd on St. Mark’s field for the Christmas event that draws the biggest annual crowd — Santa Day.
That visitor turned out not to be someone that many kids made clear wasn’t welcome. (Although, it was clear that they were delighted by his antics!)
On Saturday, the Grinch harassed the crowd waiting for Santa’s big arrival by helicopter. And the kids harassed him back, chasing him around the field and yelling at him.

Once the helicopter was in sight, all eyes were on the big guy. After Santa and Mrs. Claus exited the copter, families swarmed them to get high fives and photos.
The pair, and Kindergroup helpers, worked their way through the crowd, and greeted families waiting in line before entering the Community House.
Inside, kids enjoyed refreshments, stories, a visit with Olaf the snowman, crafts, and finally the big event — photos with Santa and sharing their Christmas wish lists.
(As usual, while everyone was thrilled to see him on the field, some of the littlest guests were a bit overwhelmed by the big “jolly old elf” in the photo room!)
The joyous free event was made possible by Kindergroup volunteers with help from a grant by the Southborough Community Fund, and supporting sponsorships from Dunkin Donuts, Falconi Energy, Phaneuf Concrete Cutting, St. Mary’s Credit Union, Silver Leaf Acupuncture, and Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home.
Art & Gift Sale
There were several other holiday events (including at least three sales) around town on Saturday, but I only managed to make it to one of those. Here are photos from the annual Art & Gift Sale at L’Abri Fellowship:
Girl Scout Sing-along
Thankfully, Sunday evening was much more mild than weather on Friday when the annual sing-along for the community led by Girl Scouts was originally scheduled to take place. Karen Anglim shared the photos below from last night.
*Note: I am President of the Friends of the Southborough Library. (And in that role, thank you to everyone who supported the sale and recent fundraisers!)
Updated (12/11/24 3:21 pm): I just realized that there were more photos from the sing-along than I had originally downloaded!
