Get kids cooking on good nutrition over February break

1st-5th graders can take part in Rec's 4-morning "Kids' Test Kitchen" camp

Over the February public school break, Southborough Recreation is offering a morning camp for kids. The main attraction for 1st-5th graders is cooking. The additional draw for parents may be the focus on getting “young eaters” to taste and think about healthy ingredients.

Feb Vacation program flyer - Kids Can CookPlus, the program promises to be safe for kids with food allergies.

And it may be a welcome way to occupy & entertain kids for part of the week break. (That could be especially important if the weather is lousy for outdoor activities that week. The camp includes burning up some calories. So I assume some fun physical activities are part of the programming.)

The Kids’ Test Kitchen registration page promotes:

Let’s continue to redefine kid food; one lesson, and one child at a time!

In this multi-hour vacation session, your eaters, working together, will prepare entrées, fun snacks, and side items whose key ingredients are known to be really good for us! During this intensive, we’ll focus a bit more on learning practical cooking skills, while finding fun ways to enjoy the produce of the season!

We will use every second of our time together! Along with cooking and tasting, which will be the emphasis, we’ll also take short breaks to burn up some calories and flex our brain muscles – digging a bit deeper into the world of nutrition with fun activities.

Even the most reluctant eaters enjoy KTK, where participation is expected, but tasting is always optional.

Each session arrives with fresh new recipes and ideas to inspire your healthy eater!

Kids have food allergies, but they shouldn’t miss out on the fun. We know allergies and can work around them, making sure that everyone is having fun
and staying safe.

The program costs $250 per participant. It will take place at Rec’ facilities in the South Union Building, 21 Highland Street. The classes will run Tuesday through Friday morning, February 18th – 21st, from 9:00 am to noon.
