Shop Local for your Valentine’s Day gifts and more

Supporting Southborough business owners helps our community

With Super Bowl Sunday and Valentine’s Day around the corner, I just want to give a quick shout out to Southborough businesses and remind readers to make an effort to Shop Local.

In case, you need a reminder why shopping local is so important. . .

Local businesses:

  • support our tax base and reinvest in our local economy,
  • provide local jobs,
  • utilize local services,
  • support our local charities and our local community (sports teams etc.).

As we head towards Annual Town Meeting in April, and voting later this spring on the Neary Building project, there will be a lot of talk about the potential for big and increasing tax burdens on residents. The number of Southborough businesses that can help offset our expenses is unfortunately low. So it’s important to show some love to those that are here, to keep them here. (And, hopefully, to signal to other potential businesses that they can be successful if they set up shop here!)

I don’t have the time and energy to keep on top of all of the categories of business like auto services, lawncare, business-to-business, etc. (Though, I encourage you to keep those in mind, too.)

But I do provide a free listing of businesses you can buy food, drinks, and gifts from. It’s something to keep in mind if you are planning a Super Bowl party or buying gifts for Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s celebrations).

And don’t forget to think of Southborough businesses first for dinners out and catering needs.

Businesses also include services that you can buy gift certificates to for friends and family members. Plus, you may be planning to do some self-pampering or beautifying in advance of special celebrations or buying jewelry to wear on a special night out.
