Here are highlights of what’s happening around (or related to) our town this weekend through next weekend.

Friday, February 7, 2025

  • ARHS Movie Night (5:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Algonquin Library: ARHS students are invited to a screening of Inside Out 2 hosted by ARHS Best Buddies.
  • Wick Choral Festival (7:30 pm) @ St. Mark’s School, Class of ’45 Hall, Putnam Family Arts Center: Admission is free to St. Mark’s 2 day celebration of music that features the talents of their students and other local high school a cappella ensembles capped off with a performance from a collegiate group.   • Valentine’s Day Party (10:30 am – 12:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Room & Children’s Room: All children are invited to the Library’s annual Valentine’s Day party! Drop in for crafts, cookie decorating and a Valentine scavenger hunt. No registration required. Sponsored by the Friends of the Southborough Library.
  • Valentine Fun (1:00 –  4:00 pm) @ Apothecary Studio, 11 Main St: Crafts, cookies, photoshoots, and shopping. (The activities aren’t free. Stay tuned for more details.) To register, click here.
  • Sit & Knit (2:00 – 4:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: Semi-monthly program for ages 18+ to drop in and work on your latest knitting or crochet projects while you enjoy the company of fellow yarn crafters in a relaxed social setting. All levels are welcome but no formal instruction will be given.
  • Anime Manga Party (2:00 – 4:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Anime & manga fans are invited to enjoy some fun activities and crafts to celebrate their enthusiasm and knowledge of all things anime and manga. Costumes encouraged!
  • Finn Special Person Dance (6:00 –  8:00 pm) @ Finn School: The dance for Finn students and one “special” adult guest is put on by Finn SOS. It is free to attend, but pre-registration is requested. It includes music, dancing, prizes, crafts, and snacks, plus a photo shoot fundraiser. (Stay tuned for more details.) To register, click here.

  • DIY Gulbankian Workshop (2:00 – 3:30 pm) @ Gulbankian Florist, 40 Mt Vickery Rd: There is a registration fee and attendance is limited. This event is a Galentine’s celebration making a Floral & Succulent arrangement. For details, see related post.

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Ages 2-5 are invited for stories and a craft based on a weekly theme. No registration required. For details, see related post.
  • Knitting Club & Quilting Club (1:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: Opportunity for seniors to work on their knitting and quilting projects in a social setting — scheduled to meet weekly.

  • Bridge (12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group, welcoming new participants. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • 2nd & 3rd Grade Book Group (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Room: Monthly Book Club with discussion and activities. Please email Kim at kivers@southboroughma.com to register.
  • Poetry Workshop (6:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, main level: Bring in five copies of original poetry to share. The group will provide supportive feedback. If you don’t have a poem, come anyway and share your insights. (Meets twice monthly.)
  • Virtual Author Talk (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ online: Registration is required to take part in the free live talk with Q&A, “Dystopian Tropes from an Indigenous Perspective: In Conversation with Waubgeshig Rice“.   • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Southborough cemetery, 11 Cordaville Road: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Elder Law Advice (10:00 – 10:45 am) @ phone or zoom: Southborough seniors can sign up for a free 15 minute session of individualized legal advice from an Elder Law attorney. For details, see the Senior Center’s newsletter, p. 9.
  • Crafternoon: Valentine Cookie Decorating (4:30 – 5:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Pre-registration is required for this free program for ages 8-12. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Live Blues Jam n’ Open Mic (8:00 – 11:00 pm) @ Owen O’Leary’s, 50 Turnpike Rd: Come play or sing with the house band and fellow musical talent, or just enjoy the show. For details, see restaurant website.

  • Young Scientists STEM Beginnings (1:15 – 2:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: This is a free series for children, ages 3-6 to learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) concepts through hands-on activities, story time and simple experiments. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Seed Pickup for Winter Sowing (12:00 – 1:00 pm) @ Cordaville Hall/Southborough Senior Center parking lot, 9 Cordaville Rd: Event requires pre-registration (and seed selection) by 3:00 pm on Friday, January 14th. Second chance for drive thru pickup of free seeds for native plants that are friendly to native pollinators. For details, see OSPC website.
  • Yoga for grieving mothers (4:40 – 6:00 pm) @ Theracopia Therapeautic Wellness Center, 5 Crystal Pond Road : Free yoga, deep meditation and Reiki healing offered to mothers who have lost a child and their families For details, see dedicated post.
  • Southborough Safe Spaces – Youth Meeting (7:00 – 9:00 pm) @ St Mark’s Episcopal Church parish hall, 27 Main St: Event for grades 6-12 hosted by Southborough Safe Spaces for LBGTQ+ youth of all faiths and their allies.
