One of the Southborough Rec spring & summer programs that registration about to open for is Outdoor Pickleball lessons. Given how quickly these limited registration offerings can fill up, you may want to set an alarm for 7:00 pm tonight!
Rec’s lessons are for two levels of “Beginner” players: Beginner 1 for newbies and Beginner 2 for those who already know the ropes but need help with their skills.
The lessons are for adults ages 18+, offered at $110 per session, which covers six weekly 90 minute lessons.
Both levels of classes are again led by “Certified Pickleball Instructor” Lisa Giusti. Each one hour class is capped at 8 players. Classes are all on Mondays, but with both a morning and evening option.
The first session of six classes will run March 31st – May 12th, except for April 21st.
[Editor’s Note: Given the season lessons will take place, I’m reaching out to find out what the policy/practice is for rainy days. I’m waiting to hear back and will update this post when I do.]
If you can’t take advantage of this session of classes, or hope to advance from Beginner 1 to 2 later this spring, mark your calendar for April 13th. That’s when signup will open for a second round of the classes (with switched hours) to run from May 19th-June 30th (except for Memorial Day).
Beginner 1
An instructional pickleball program for athletes new to the sport or just beginning. Learn the game’s rules, techniques and skills. The curriculum will begin with the basics and end with participants playing full games against each other.

- or 5:00 – 6:00 pm
Beginner 2

This is for players who want to gain more confidence on the court and improve their overall pickleball experience. The program focuses on proper technique and mechanics in developing more consistency with shots like dinks, drops, groundstrokes, volleys, serves, etc.
Times offered are:
- 10:00 – 11:00 am
- or 6:00 – 7:00 pm
All classes will be held at the Tennis Courts at Mooney Field. That’s on the Finn School campus, 60 Richards Road. (See image of parking and location right.)
