There were a number of fundraisers this weekend — for cancer research, the troops overseas, and for a club at Algonquin — and by all accounts each was successful. Here’s a recap.
Semi-annual troop drive
Co-organizer Debbie Depp-Wilson said this weekend’s troop drive in honor of her daughter Courtney who’s stationed in Afghanistan, was the most successful yet. “Shipping over 500 care packages we surpassed the 5,000 box milestone,” Depp-Wilson wrote in an email. “I can hardly wait to tell Courtney about the extraordinary kindness and generosity of all of you who wrote checks, brought items, and sorted and packed boxes. For those of you who coordinated your children, their friends, and your students to make cards and bring items, please pass this onto them with my thanks.”
Relay for Life
The weather was a bit soggy, and the threat of lightning called off the overnight portion of the event, but Friday and Saturday’s Relay for Life at Algonquin raised more than $28K for cancer research. NorthboroughNews.org editor Kim Henderson-Lee took part in the event. You can read her take here.
Electronic recycling drive for the Algonquin robotics club
It must have been tempting for the members of Algonquin’s robotic club not to scavenge the electronics for spare parts, but the team managed to more than fill a large truck with TV’s, computer monitors, printers, small appliances and other electronics turned in by the community for recycling. The money raised will help the team as they compete in local, regional, and national events. You can learn more on NorthboroughNews.org.
