This week, Algonquin Regional High School students will perform Oscar Wilde’s most famous work, farcically named “The Importance of Being Earnest”.
GonkStage promotes:
Fake names, big lies, and even bigger laughs—Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest is the ultimate comedy of mistaken identity! Two friends invent alter egos to escape their boring lives, but when love gets involved, their plan spins wildly out of control. Secret identities, ridiculous mix-ups, and one very important name—what could possibly go wrong? Can they keep up the act, or will the truth ruin everything? Don’t miss this fast-paced, laugh-out-loud show that proves being “Earnest” has never been so complicated!
Unlike the big, splashy fall musicals, GonkStage’s winter plays are performed on the small stage in their “Black Box” theater.
The public performances are this Thursday and Friday (March 13th & 14th) at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $5 each and must be purchased online here.
Some Gonk students will already have previewed the play this past Saturday, when Algonquin hosted a 2025 Mass Theater Celebration.
The March 8th event was part of the annual Mass High School Drama Festival series organized by the Mass Educational Theater Guild. (The event at Algonquin was partially sponsored by a grant from the Southborough Cultural Arts Council.)
GonkStage performed its comedy following performances in the Black Box by five other schools:
- Millis High School — Lockdown
- Hudson High School — Removing the Glove
- Sturgis Charter Public School (East) — The Scheme of the Driftless Shifter
- The Newman School — Number the Stars
- Sturgis Charter Public School (West) — Sideways Stories from Wayside School
