Clarifying Neary School Building Project Meeting Schedule

Above: I’m trying to clear up any confusion on when and where meetings are taking place. (new building design rendering from Facebook, date info edited from flyer)

Some readers may be planning to attend one or more of the meetings about the Neary Building Project over the next few weeks.

But between changing messages from the Town over meeting locations, and my error in a post I ran this morning, the public may be confused about when and where some of this week’s meetings are taking place.

This post is just to make sure it is crystal clear.

According to revised language in the Neary Building Committee’s March 20th Facebook page, these are the planned forums and topics (all to include Q&A):

  • Financial Cost Presentations
    • Tonight, Monday, March 31, 8:00 pm over zoom (webinar ID 879 4383 2307, passcode 469169)
    • Saturday, April 5, 9:00 am in the the Trottier Middle School Auditorium
  • Joint Meeting to discuss the Overall Project with Select Board and Advisory Committee — Thursday, April 3, 6:30 pm in the Public Safety Building and zoom
  • Education and Design Presentation, including grade configuration
    • Tuesday, April 8, 10:00 am in the Woodward School Cafeteria
    • Thursday, April 10, 7:00 pm in the in the Trottier Middle School Auditorium
  • Site Overview — Wednesday, April 16, 7:00 pm in the Trottier Middle School Auditorium

The Finance presentations will offer an updated, detailed presentation on the project costs and the future tax impacts. The presentation will include the projected overall Town budget thru June 30, 2031 “including details of expected school operational cost savings from the project.”

I would expect attendees who ask other questions about the projects that aren’t directly related to the costs to be pointed to the Thursday meeting. That one is intended to cover “all aspects” of the project. That will be a hybrid meeting, and it’s worth pointing out that the room has limited capacity. (So, if you really want to be one of the in-person attendees, you might want to get there a bit early, just in case it fills up.)

Dedicated meetings will follow over the next two weeks on specific topics.

The above meetings are just the ones that organizers are encouraging the public to attend to learn more and ask questions. They are in addition to public meetings the Neary Building Committee and its subcommittees have been holding to get their work done. (For instance, the Neary Building Committee is also holding a zoom meeting at 7:00 pm tonight.)

Of course, the biggest save the dates are for the times that residents will actually vote on the project and its financing:

  • The dedicated Special Town Meeting will take place on Saturday, May 10th, 9:00 am at Algonquin Regional High School.
  • The ballot vote through the Annual Town Election is on Tuesday, May 13th.
