[The Boston Marathon always includes a pack of runners from our town.  Between now and Patriots Day, I’m featuring stories of resident runners donning bibs for a cause]

Matthew Pitney is one of the 17 Southborough runners preparing to take on the 26.2 mile Patriots Day challenge. He shared that his run is on behalf of a charity that supports families fighting pediatric cancer.

Mathew Pitney (contributed photo)This will be Pitney’s 3rd marathon run, but the first in Boston. He’s excited for the opportunity to be part of the big race and support the worthy cause.

In answer to my question of why he chose to run for One Mission, he wrote:

My answer is “why not run it for One Mission.” As a father of 3 young kids it only seems right to support an organization that helps families fight pediatric cancer. Running a marathon might seem challenging but it does not compare to how hard it must be to see your child fighting cancer. If I can help families by doing something as simple as running then sign me up for it everyday! As a Waltham Firefighter my department has supported One Mission for a long time now so when I decided I was going to run the marathon, One Mission was my first choice and I am fortunate enough to have the privilege and honor to run for them.
