It’s been a long time in the making, but Southborough will soon take possession of its new aerial ladder truck. Heritage Day organizers are hoping Tower 21 will be here in time for the parade on October 11. Fire Chief John Mauro said delivery is currently scheduled for the week of October 12, but that’s subject to change.
Members of the Southborough Fire Department recently went to check out the ladder truck in Nebraska and sent this report:
Fire Chief John Mauro, Lt. James Colleary (Chair of the Ladder Committee) and Lt. James Peltier traveled to the Smeal Fire Apparatus factory in Snyder, Nebraska on September 27th to conduct the pre-delivery inspection on Southborough’s new Quint. Richard Peck of New England Fire Equipment and Apparatus (NEFEA) accompanied the members of the Department for the inspection.
The truck will be transported early next week to NEFEA’s shop for final preparations for delivery to Southborough. As of right now, delivery is projected to be the week of October 12th.
Once delivered, members of the Department will undergo extensive training as is the rule whenever a new piece of equipment is introduced into the Department. Once personnel are sufficiently trained, the quint will be placed into service.
Chief Mauro also sent along some photos from the inspection (click to enlarge):
A beautiful truck!
The new “quint” will, I am sure, serve the town well for years to come. My hat is off to all involved in funding, designing, and aquiring this great piece of fire apparatus! I can’t wait to see it up close.
