The Metrowest Daily News today reports that the building that formerly housed the Benchmark Deli — and more recently the Town Line Deli — is up for sale. The owner says he wants to sell because he’s in negotiations to buy a different property in town.
“I’ve owned it for 13 years and now I think it’s time to sell it,” Ralph Iannone said. “I have my eye on another property in town and I decided it was time to liquidate.”
Iannone said he could not specify which other Southborough property he was looking to buy, since negotiations are ongoing.
Other commercial properties in town that are on the market include the former Capasso Farms/Country Gourmet on Framingham Road and the historic red building next to Falconi’s on Boston Road. Additional commercial properties are available on Central Street, Southville Road, and Route 9.
It seems to me that no business has ever really thrived at this location. Even Maureen’s was never overcrowded. I guess people are too busy to stop in.
Funny how in the previous articles, including Benchmark leaving, the landlord did not have a comment but now that he is trying to sell the building he is very open with the press……HMMMMM
Throw some picnic tables in the yard and do a coffee shop in the am (Red Barn), beer garden bbq (Sam Adams or BYOB) in the afternoon. The ‘deli’ was never open during peak traffic times. Open up at 5:30 am and stay open for longer than 6 hours and maybe sales might pick up.

yes, I’m sure the Iannone will have no problems selling the location with that beautiful paint job!
Benchmark should comeback. Have they gone to another site?
I heard that Benchmark left because of flooding problems in the building that the owner wouldn’t correct..
Benchmark did a very nice business, and their problems with the landlord are well documented. Nice people, good food, open at good hours. It’s not the location, it’s the product.
I believe the flooding problem was fixed by the landlord. And the above comment is right, Town Line Deli was never open on the times posted on the door. They seemed to come and go as they pleased. The 2 running it had no idea what they were doing.
