Residents got their first glimpse of the town’s new aerial ladder truck yesterday as it led the Heritage Day parade with sirens blaring.
Voters approved the purchase of the $850K apparatus at a special town meeting last fall. The truck took a year to build, and arrived in Southborough just in time for this year’s parade. Emergency personnel will need to be trained on the apparatus before it officially goes into service.
Following not far behind the new ladder truck in the parade was the state-championship Southborough Baseball team, who were the grand marshals. New this year, the parade featured two marching bands — one from Algonquin and one from Trottier which, like the ladder truck, made its debut in the parade.
Also marching — and tossing candy to the crowd — were all the Southborough groups you’d expect, including the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, youth soccer, Kindergroup, and more. I’m not sure who had more fun, the kids throwing the candy, or the kids catching it.
Southborough photographer Chris Wraight sent along some photos of the parade. I’ll post more Heritage Day photos throughout the week, so be sure to check back.
