It’s a busy (and exciting!) day in Algonquin sports. Four teams — boys soccer, girls soccer, girls volleyball, and girls field hockey — will compete in post-season games today.
Algonquin’s top-ranked boys soccer team and the no. 2 ranked girls soccer team both had byes in the first round of play-offs. They’ll each play quarter final rounds today. Both the girls and the boys are looking to defend their Division 1 Central championship titles (the girls went on to become state champs last year).
On Friday, the girls volleyball team bested Shepherd Hill by a score of 3-0 in the first round of their playoffs. They’ll face Westford in today’s quarter finals. After a bye in the first round, the girls field hockey team on Friday scored a single goal in the second overtime of their quarter final game to squeak by Shrewsbury by a score of 1-0. They’ll face Westborough in the semi-finals today.
Here’s the schedule for the playoff action.
Update: The field hockey game and both soccer games have been postponed until tomorrow because of the weather. Volleyball will go ahead today as scheduled. (Thanks to Chris for the tip!)
