Southborough Library Genealogy Club to talk female ancestry on Thursday

The Southborough Public Library Genealogy Club will host Laura Prescott for a talk on Spinsters and Widows: Tracing the Female Lines in Your Ancestry, on Thursday, November 18, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., at the Southborough Public Library, 25 Main Street, Southborough, MA.

According to Ms. Prescott, “…Your female ancestors and their sisters had few public rights, but often wielded an unspoken power in deeds, wills, and personal accounts. Probe the records and discover maiden names, relationships, and the voice of women in nineteenth-century America.”

Laura Prescott is a professional researcher, writer, and speaker. She worked for the New England Historic Genealogical Society for seven years before starting her own research business. Originally from Charleston, West Virginia, she has lived in New England for over thirty years. Laura graduated with a B.A. in History from Dartmouth College. She is the president of the Association of Professional Genealogists, genealogy project manager for the Nickerson Family Association, and a consultant for Footnote.com. Her articles have appeared in Ancestry, New England Ancestors, Genealogical Computing, NGS NewsMagazine, and Digital Genealogist.

The Genealogy Club meets at the Southborough Public Library located at the junction of Routes 85 and 30, at 25 Main Street in Southborough. Meetings are open to the public.
