Dennis Wrenn to be honored at holiday concert on Thursday

It’s a holiday celebration that will no doubt be bittersweet. At Algonquin on Thursday in the midst of an an evening of art, music, and holiday cheer, a plaque and bench outside the auditorium will be dedicated in memory of longtime music director Dennis Wrenn.

Wrenn died suddenly while leading a student trip to Greece in 2009. His supporters lobbied to have the performance wing at Algonquin named after him in tribute, and in September of this year, the Regional School Committee voted in favor of doing so.

Here are the details about Thursday’s holiday festival and dedication:

Beginning at 7:00 pm, Algoncapella and Ladies First will begin pre-concert singing in the rotunda.  Instrumental Chamber ensembles will be featured in the foyer to the Auditorium.  Light refreshments will be served and works by the art students will be on display.

Prior to the concert, there will be a dedication of a plaque and bench in memory of Dennis Wrenn, beloved teacher and fine arts department head at ARHS.

Then at 7:30 pm, the audience will be invited into the auditorium, where the formal part of the concert will take place. The Camerata Singers, A-Gents, Chamber Singers, Orchestra, Ninth Grade Chorale, and Concert Choir will sing and play selections, including such holiday favorites as S’vivon, It’s a Marshmallow World, Merry Christmas Darling, Greensleeves, Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella, O Tannenbaum and White Christmas.

The event is open to the public. Admission is $5 or $3 for students and seniors.
