Your days of scrounging around for dollar bills so your kid can buy lunch at school are coming to an end.
Southborough schools will soon implement a pre-pay system for lunches. Director of Business for the Northborough-Southborough School District Cheryl Levesque says the system will be a low-tech one at first, probably taking the form of a pre-paid punch card.
Levesque said other towns in the area have higher-tech debit card systems, but that’s out of reach for Southborough given the current budget constraints. Levesque said they would look into higher-tech solutions once they figure out a funding strategy.
Pre-paid cards may be available in all Southborough schools as soon as April. If the program is successful, it will also be implemented in Northborough.
thank you for sharing this information. It is about time! We had punch cards when I was in elem. school back in the late 70’s!!
