It’s going to be a bit of a late start for students when school opens next fall. At last week’s Southborough School Committee meeting, Superintendent Charles Gobron presented the proposed schedule for the 2009-2010 school year.
Gobron explained that because Labor Day falls late this year (September 7), students won’t start school until September 2. That’s six days later than this year year when students started on August 27.
Four professional development days are scheduled for teachers, including the Monday after Thanksgiving, the Tuesday after Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January, and the Thursday before Good Friday in April.
Committee Vice Chair Marybeth Strickland says she has heard complaints in the past from parents about the professional development day in January because parents feel students just had time off over the holiday break.
Graduation for the Algonquin class of 2010 is tentatively scheduled for June 6.
The Southborough School Committee approved the schedule. The dates still need to be approved by the Northborough and Regional school committees.
