From today’s Metrowest Daily News:
The state attorney general has declined to investigate multiple alleged Open Meeting Law violations against the town, saying that the complaint was filed too late.
Resident Nancy Vargas filed a complaint in December 2010 in which she alleged that local officials misused funds and violated the Open Meeting Law while the Municipal Facilities Committee conducted the design phase for improvements to the police station between 2006 and 2009.
You can read more here. For background on the complaint against the town, see this post.
Its to bad the AG wouldn’t investigate that complaint because “it was filed too late.” I think from what I have read (the entire complaint) had validity, sad they have time limits. Those committee members that conducted themselves in that manner, including our Selectman, Mr. William Boland should be held accountable. A couple of other State Agencies still left to go and hopefully justice will prevail. If Southborough had a Town Manager under a new form of government things would be a lot better for everyone, instead of the circus at Town Hall we have now. Not you Mr. Rooney!!
It wasn’t even that Nancy was late. Jurisdiction changed from the DA to the AG. The DA told her “no problem,” but now the AG says the date of filing is a problem.
It looks to me as though the AG’s office is using a technicality to winnow down its workload. They have to filter somehow, but this sounds like an especially maddening way to do it.
