My Southborough reader Francie sent in this report about Southborough girl scouts who provided some welcomed encouragement for marathon runners:

Two Girl Scout Troops gathered together last Saturday, March 26, to cheer on runners training for the Boston Marathon. The 21 mile run is an annual event that charity runners complete as part of their marathon training for Boston.

This year the Girls Scouts from Southborough troops #72773 and #72800, came out to support the runners from the American Liver Foundation and Children’s Hospital. The run began at the start of the Boston Marathon in Hopkinton and finished at the top of Heartbreak Hill. The girls waited at the top of Heartbreak Hill to greet their runners with water, leis and lots and lots of cheers. This is a major accomplishment for anyone training for Boston and seeing a pack of enthusiastic Girls Scouts at the top is a wonderful way to finish.
