Town Meeting day 2: A quick recap (reimbursement, playground, and more)

I’ll write more in the morning, but for those of you who can’t wait until then, here are the highlights from day 2 of Town Meeting.

  • Voters approved a $44M budget, with $41M of it to be raised through taxes. I don’t know what that translates to in terms of a tax increase, but I’ll work on finding out.
  • Employees involved in the Southborough Eight investigation will get some of their legal fees reimbursed, but not all. A compromise plan to reimburse employees 50 percent of what they requested was proposed and approved by voters. There was some procedural wrangling, but little of the drama many anticipated.
  • The south side of town will get a new playground. In a close vote, Town Meeting approved using $96K in Community Preservation Act funds to build a playground at the South Union School
  • Voters took the next step on the road to restructuring town government by forming a drafting committee to look into moving to a Town Manager form of government.

More later after I’ve gotten some sleep … and maybe a glass of wine.
