Southborough Boy Scout Adam Wolfset wants Neary School to be come “recreation central.” With a supportive vote at Town Meeting on Tuesday night, the sixteen-year-old is one step closer to achieving his goal.
Wolfset initiated an article to allocate $4K in Community Preservation Act funds toward building a new sand volleyball court between the existing tennis courts and soccer field at Neary. Town Meeting overwhelmingly approved.
In a presentation to selectmen earlier this year, Wolfset said the total project will cost $6K, but he has received $1,200 from the Recreation Department for nets and poles, and has collected another $800 through fundraising.
Wolfset is constructing the court as his Eagle Scout service project.
At Town Meeting, both Selectman Bill Boland and John Rooney said they supported the article and commended Wolfset for his work.
“This young man came to us and gave a presentation that any parent would be proud of,” Rooney said. “Even in these fiscal times he was able to persuade us of its viability.”
Wolfset said the volleyball court will be constructed by the Boy Scouts with help from the Recreation Department and the DPW. Ongoing maintenance will be handled by the scouts.

Great job Adam!
Nicely done, Adam. Good idea and a good value for the town.
What a fantastic idea for an Eagle Scout Project! The effort to build and come up with another way for our community to get exercise…love it!
Congrats Adam!
Congratulations Adam.
Awesome! Great job!
What will happen to the volleyball court that no one uses at the Woodward school?
The court at Woodward is placed in a shaded area and in a generally unpleasant location for a quick game. The addition of a court at Neary will add to the area’s sporting activity, which is great! More people will be apt to use it due to the convenient location. I will be planning to use it once its up and running!
Congrats Adam!!
