Special ceremony to kick off troop drive tomorrow

There will be a special volunteer at the care package drive for the troops at the Southborough Senior Center this weekend. Sergeant Amy Metcalf of Florida has been a recipient of donations collected at two of the previous troop drives, and this weekend she’ll be in Southborough to say thanks.

In honor of Metcalf’s visit, there will be a special ceremony at 9:00 am on Saturday to kick off the drive. Metcalf will be there. So will members of the New England Patriots End Zone Militia along with bagpipers. White doves will be released as a sign of peace. You can read more details in the Metrowest Daily News.

The troop drive will be the 13th organized by Lisa Braccio and Debbie Depp-Wilson. They’re asking residents to donate food and drinks, personal care necessities, and entertainment items.

Braccio and Depp-Wilson say no donation is too small. Check out this flyer for a list of requested items. You can also make monetary donations to help with the cost of shipping. Residents are also asked to make cards for the troops to thank them for their service.

Last fall, Braccio and Depp-Wilson collected and shipped more than 10,000 pounds of treats and basic necessities to troops in Afghanistan.

You can drop off items at the Senior Center (9 Cordaville Road) on Saturday, May 14 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Sunday, May 15 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
