It’s been quite a year for the Trottier Middle School Big Band, and one of the highlights is yet to come. On Thursday, June 2, the band will take the stage with Southborough native saxophonist-composer Dave Pietro.
Pietro, who now lives in New York, has performed at jazz clubs, jazz festivals, schools, and concert halls worldwide. He has played with the Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, and Maynard Ferguson Bands, along with Blood Sweat & Tears, Rosemary Clooney, Harry Connick Jr., Liza Minnelli, and more. Pietro held court at the Steeple Coffeehouse at Pilgrim Church back in February, and by all accounts it was a fantastic show.
For their part, the Trottier Big Band is wrapping up an award-winning season, most recently having taken home a gold medal at the Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education festival held at the school earlier this month (the stage band also took home gold). Trottier seventh-grader saxophonist Connor Jenks (my nephew!) was named the festival’s MVP.
Next Thursday’s show with Pietro is open to the public, and it’s sure to be a good one. The music starts at 7:00 pm at the Trottier auditorium. Admission is free, but donations of cash or dry/canned goods for the Southborough Food Pantry are appreciated. The event is co-sponsored by the Northborough-Southborough Music Association and local businesses including Robinson’s Music and the David French Music Company, both of Westborough, and the Centre Music House of Framingham.
