Earlier this month, a group of six Southborough women teamed up to run 100 miles in a single day as part of Vermont’s 100 on 100 relay race. They did it for the physical challenge. They did it for the camaraderie. They also did it to raise money for the Friends of the Southborough Youth Commission.

All told the team, comprised of Kate Alben, Christa Brady, Amy Debroczy, Elizabeth Masterson, Nicole Rhind, and Karin Weinberg, raised more than $5,000 for the Friends organization which supports the work of Southborough Youth and Family Services. The money will help pay for summer camp for Southborough kids who otherwise might not be able to go.

During the race, each of the women ran a minimum of 15 miles over three legs of varying difficulty along Vermont’s hilly Route 100. The relay lasted throughout the day and into the night.

Weinberg said the race was hard but worth it.

“We are all in one piece, if not a little sore and tired,” she said. “The weekend and relay surpassed all our expectations in terms of  being everything we wanted it to be and more.”
