If you’re watching television tomorrow at 2:00 pm, or if you’re listening to the radio, prepare to be interrupted as FEMA conducts the first-ever nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System.
The alert will sound basically the same as the one you’re used to hearing during local tests, and will be accompanied by a message saying it’s only a test. You’ll hear it on broadcast radio and television stations, cable television, satellite radio and television services and wireline video service providers. The test is expected to last about 30 seconds.
FEMA said they chose November 9 to do the nationwide test because it’s at the tail end of the hurricane season but before the winter storm season begins in earnest (excepting, of course, Snowtober).
