The Swap Shop may be the main topic of conversation for many Southborough residents, but those upset with the decision to close the beloved shack will have to wait until next month to air their grievances.
Town Administrator Jean Kitchen was working on arranging a public hearing before Selectmen take up the issue in January, but said yesterday she was unable to get it scheduled before the holidays. That means the next opportunity to talk Swap will come at the Board of Selectmen meeting on January 3.
At that meeting selectmen are expected to discuss issues surrounding the Swap Shop, which is currently slated to be shuttered on January 7.
The Swap Shop at the town’s Transfer Station was originally set to close on December 1, but strong opposition from residents convinced Chairman of the Board of Selectman Bill Boland to delay the closure.
The meeting on January 3 will be the first time the Swap Shop has been on the selectmen’s agenda since the decision was made to close it. I don’t have any details on the meeting yet, but will of course post them when I do.
Heard from a long-time DPW employee at Dunkin’s when we were in line last week and he was asked by another resident about the swap shop closing: ‘It’s not gonna close. They’re gonna tear it down and build a bigger building.”
