In 2008 Massachusetts passed the Green Communities Act. It’s legislation that encourages municipalities to adopt clean energy practices in exchange for increased local aid. Since then, more than 80 cities and towns in the state have been designated Green Communities. Southborough’s Green Technology and Recycling Committee thinks our town should consider becoming one of them.
On January 19 they’ll host an information session at the library to share information on the program with residents. Here are the details.
The Southborough Green Technology and Recycling Committee is holding a public meeting at the Southborough Public Library on January 19, 2012 at 7:30 pm. This meeting is an information session to provide residents of the town the opportunity to become familiar with the State of Massachusetts Green Communities Program. There are now eighty four (84) towns and cities in Massachusetts participating in the program. The Green Technology and Recycling Committee believes Southborough should consider participating and encourages residents to learn more about this worthwhile effort.
The primary goals of the Green Communities Program are:
- To encourage the growth of “Green” industry within the town
- To reduce the town’s operating costs
- To reduce the life cycle costs of home ownership.
