Residents donate nearly 700 pounds of food to the Southborough Food Pantry

The Southborough Food Pantry has received a couple of much-needed donations recently. Earlier this month St. Matthew’s Youth Group collected 331 pounds of food and raised more than $1,000 at their second annual Souper Bowl Sunday (at least something good happened that day). The event was organized by youth group member Jimmy Knowles.

Then last week, the pantry received a separate donation of 366 pounds of food collected by Finn, Woodward, and Neary School parents and students.

On the pantry’s Facebook page, volunteers thanked all who donated, including families who gave in each of the two drives, along with St. Matthew’s Youth Group members Jimmy Knowles, Charles Kinne, Dan O’Brien, Patrick Mathon, Mike and Dan Araujo, Jackie Disch, Louise Farquhar, and Matty and Robbie Barnes.

While the donations were a welcome injection, pantry volunteers say they still need help to meet the demand. In particular, the pantry needs the following: juice bottles, beef stew, corned beef hash, mayonnaise, ketchup, laundry detergent, dish soap, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, and toilet paper.

Donation boxes are located at each of the Southborough schools, at Walgreens on Route 9, and at Middlesex Savings Bank in downtown Southborough. Donations can also be dropped off at any of the member churches (Pilgrim, St. Anne, St. Mark’s, St. Matthew, and First Community Church) during normal church hours.
