As first reported last night, the Capasso family has withdrawn its application for a zoning variance to reestablish a farm stand at the site of the former Capasso Farms on Framingham Road. But that doesn’t mean all hope is lost for those of you (including me) who were excited about having a local option for our summer produce.
The Metrowest Daily News talked with a representative for the Capasso family, and here’s what they learned:
“We absolutely want to bring back the farm stand, but we want to make sure we have the right group that’s going to run it,” (Cheryl Duddy Schoenfeld, Capasso Realty executive director of asset management) said.
The two tenants that had been interested in running the farm were both area landscapers, one of whom — Paul McKunes of Holliston — was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2010 after pleading guilty to insurance and worker’s compensation fraud.
Schoenfeld said the Capassos are looking for tenants with more experience in the agricultural retail business.
The Zoning Board of Appeals voted unanimously to allow the Capasso family to withdraw their application without prejudice, which means they can apply again in the future if they want. Cross your fingers.
