Southborough fire crews spent much of Monday helping put out the flames of a 6-alarm fire in an apartment building on West Main Street in Marlborough. A passerby called in the fire shortly after 9:00am. It spread quickly and Southborough responded via mutual aid not long afterwards, sending its ladder truck among other apparatus.
The fire is thought to have started in the fifth-floor attic of the building, and flames and heavy smoke could be seen pouring out of the roof at times. Crews from a number of neighboring communities in addition to Southborough responded to the scene. All the residents made it out safely and were being assisted by the Red Cross.
