Southborough natives Robin and Kerry Kendall are worlds apart. Robin is here in Southborough and Kerry is deployed with Special Forces in Afghanistan. But later this month they’ll both make a journey to cross home plate.

On Saturday, May 20, Robin will take part in the Red Sox Foundation’s annual Run-Walk to Home Base, which raises money for veterans with combat stress and/or traumatic brain injury. It’s a race younger sister Kerry has done for the past two years, but had to skip this year because of her deployment.

“I made a promise to her to run this year for her,” Robin said. “I am keeping my promise to my sister.”

As it turns out, Kerry will get to do the Run to Home Base, too – she just won’t end at Fenway. Robin recently learned that Kerry’s location was selected to run a satellite race overseas. The Red Sox Foundation will send a home plate to Kerry in Afghanistan, so all the men and women taking part will get to run across it.

So far, the Run to Home Base has raised more than $1.2M. Robin’s fundraising goal is $1,000. You can help her reach it by making a donation on her fundraising page.

Best of luck to both Robin and Kerry!
