Southborough residents among NSPAC award recipients

At an awards ceremony on Tuesday evening, the The Northborough/Southborough Special Education Parent Advisory Council recognized 93 local residents for the impact they have had on the lives of children with special needs. Among the community members recognized with Go the Distance awards, are many who live and work in Southborough. You can see the full list of NSPAC award recipients here.

One such award recipient was Algonquin senior and Southborough resident Emma Decker. Emma spends much of her free time volunteering at Finn School assisting special needs students. She apparently had quite an impact, and was nominated for the award by one of the kindergarten students she worked with there.

When she’s not volunteering at Finn, Emma is the goalie of the almost undefeated Algonquin girls lacrosse team, and rumor has it, she maintains straight A’s. Mom Suzy, Dad Steve, and Emma’s brother and sister are rightly proud of all she has accomplished and contributed to her community.

Please join me in congratulating Emma, along with all the other award recipients, for the difference they have made.

Thank you for posting this on your site. As you know and our daughter Emma was one of many wonderful caring people that received these awards that night.
This article surprised and shocked her. It was a wonderful treat for our entire family.

You provide a great resource for our town and thank you for that.

I have had the true pleasure of having Emma in my classroom this year. She is already a natural teacher who touches every child she meets. The children light up when Emma enters the classroom. Congratulations “Miss Emma” on your award which is certainly deserved!

As one of the NSPAC Co-Presidents, it was truly touching to get a nomination for a young student in high school like Emma.

I was truly touched by all the nominations NSPAC received for the “Go the Distance” Awards Night. I am also glad that NSPAC had decided on including the community members this year which really seemed to have made a difference in making the community truly become aware of what a great community we all live in!

I also want to mention that it took a little investigation on my side to find the right Emma Decker at Algonquin because the original nomination name was not to be found at the high school. I eventually found Emma Decker and my award notification letter went out on its way.
