Algonquin seniors are eligible to apply for $12,000 in scholarships to be awarded by the Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce, the chamber recently announced. Graduating seniors from other area schools are also eligible. Scholarships will be granted on the basis of scholastic achievement, community and school involvement, work experience, financial need, appearance of application, and an interview. While the students will have to wait for their cash, several local teachers have already theirs thanks to mini-grants from the chamber.
Liz Henry, chair of the social studies department at Trottier, will use her mini-grant to assemble a “China box,” a collection of artifacts from a trip to China she took this summer. She’ll use the artifacts in presentations both in and out of the classroom.
Lauren Grimley, Trottier’s English language arts department chair, received a grant in support of her “Words Their Way” program.
Karyn Fisher of Woodward also was awarded a mini-grant, as were Christine Thompson, Amelia Davis and John Frederick of Algonquin (more on the Algonquin programs here).
