MWDN: Southborough senior housing project on hold

Stonebrook Village is a development that can’t seem to get off the ground. First proposed as a 15-unit 40B affordable housing development off Oregon Road in 2008, the project got approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals in September 2010. But last August, Southborough developer William Depietri scrapped plans for the 40B saying he wanted to build an over-55 community on the property instead.

The project has been before the Planning Board for several months, but hearings on it have been repeatedly postponed at the request of the applicant. Last month Depietri told the Planning Board he has decided to put the project on hold.

Reports the Metrowest Daily News:

Developer William Depietri has temporarily withdrawn applications for his proposed Stonebrook Village over-55 condo complex on Oregon Road, in response to several issues raised by the Planning Board.

“Based on the initial public hearings and subsequent meetings with the building inspector and town planner, it was determined that substantially revised plans and applications were warranted,” lawyers for Depietri’s Capital Group Properties wrote in a May 16 letter to the board.

Do we really need another senior housing facility? There are already numerous ones in this small town, and yet only one condo group open to all ages.

Based on a couple of phone calls I have received tonight on the above post, I would like to be clear the above poster is not me. My comments on this project have been well recorded in the past.

I agree with the first Lisa… why not another mixed-age group like they have over on Fiddleneck? And I personally wouldn’t mind seeing a handicap-accessible condo that lets kids in…
