Algonquin was vandalized last week. Reports the Metrowest Daily News:
A thief pried five silver-colored letters out of Algonquin Regional High School’s name on the building’s brick front Wednesday night, police said, breaking a skylight at the same time.
Detective Sgt. Brian Griffin said it appears that the thief reached the letters by climbing onto the roof.
A beer can was found near where the skylight was broken, he said.
From the photo in the MWDN it appears the vandals stole the “A” from Algonquin along with “c” and “o-o-l” from School. Reportedly each letter is worth “quite a bit.”

I’m sure that either they have insurance for that, or there is some money somewhere in the budget to replace them.
Southsider I think you are missing the point. This is VANDALISM and those responsible should be prosecuted. We the tax payers will be paying for this one way or another. There has to be a deductible on the insurance policy. Kids who do things like this need to be punished. Not with suspension or a minuscule fine, they need to be held accountable for their actions.
i am with resident on this one and as someone who is consistently in the schools fundraising for actual materials as well as for the well being of the institutions I am not raising monies for the replacement of vandalism. If the person’s code of ethics and morals was compromised then they should pay to have it replaced and be brought up on charges. In my opinion if it turns out that it was a current student then they should be suspended for a period of time
I am with Resident and Northsider. If Southsider is referencing the school budget and the tax payer burden, then you are missing the point. We are talking about criminal acts which ultimately will cost tax payers more money.
This might be a good warning to us all about vandalism… what is the security system at the high school like?
This wasn’t a 5-minute job. I hate to think how much damage would have been done if they broke into the computer labs,band rooms, offices instead. No security cameras around that may have caught something?
What makes everyone think it’s kids?
Unless the letters are made of copper there is really not much payout for the effort for taking them down which is pointing to the act of somehow whose morals and value system is not developed as of yet and so I am assuming that it is the act of someone under the age of 25. However, you raise a good point Alan that age has nothing to do with a bankrupt value system or code of ethics. In this day in age perhaps it is someone in their 40’s who really just never quite got that high school experience he/she was looking for which brings up an extremely valid point which is security at the high school.
I am all for whatever security measures are deemed necessary at whatever costs and you can put the bill in my mailbox.
Or maybe someone without a High School education at all. I am still trying to figure out what they would need to spell so badly they would need the letters “A-C-O-O-L”. Anyone good at this type of puzzle?
On Northsider’s point, we have camera’s protecting our dump and our trash, don’t we have camera’s at the schools?????
Tell me in this day and age there aren’t cameras and lights triggered by motion. Perhaps its time to consider such a high tech solution
