Everything you need to know about Summer Nights 2012

Here are all the details you’ll need for Summer Nights on Saturday. Bring a blanket and some lawn chairs (and insect repellent!), claim an area on the lawn by the tennis courts, and then head off to enjoy all the activities, food, and music.

Activities
Activities start at 5:00 pm. The fireworks display is expected at happen after 8:00 pm or so. Don’t forget to bring a towel and change of clothes for kids going in the bubble romp! Here are more details:

• 5:00-7:30/8:00 | Video Arcade, Wrecking Ball, Basketball Shoot Out, Pony Rides, Face Painting, Fire Dept. Bubble Romp, and food
• 5:00 | Toddler Activity run by Patty Howard, owner of Active Soles and sponsored by Phaneuf Concrete & Cutting. Activity will be located at a tent on the grass area.
• 5:45 | Big Joe Story Teller, sponsored by Wee Care for Little People. Activity will be located on the tennis court.
• 6:30 – 8:30 | Infractions
• Dusk | Fireworks

Music
It wouldn’t be Summer Nights without music, and this fans will welcome back The Infractions, a 60′s, 70’s, and 80’s cover band.

Location and parking
All the action happens at Neary Elementary School (53 Parkerville Road). You can park in the Neary or Trottier lots, but the road between the two schools will be closed, so you’ll need to access Neary via Parkerville Road and Trottier via the Deerfoot Road entrance. Food
Food and treats will be available for purchase from local establishments, including pizza from Domino’s, sandwiches by Quizno’s, hot dogs, burgers, fried dough, and cotton candy by Dean’s Concessions, brownies by Yummy Mummy, and ice cream by The Creamery.

Raffle prizes
Southborough Summer Nights will be holding a special raffle fundraiser to benefit seventeen-month-old Brendan Shanahan, son of Southborough firefighter Chris Shanahan and his wife Melinda. Brendan who was recently diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia, and Southborough firefighters have set up a fund to help the family.

Health and safety
There will be a first aid station located near the entrance to the Neary School parking lot. You will not be able to go into the school to use the bathrooms, but Port-a-Potties will be available near the entrance to Neary. This year it’s more important than ever that you bring and apply insect repellent. Trottier and Neary will be sprayed for mosquitoes before the event, but just yesterday new cases of West Nile and EEE were reported in neighboring towns, including Hopkinton, Ashland, Westborough, and Marlborough. Use repellents that contain DEET on those for whom it is safe. Read product labels carefully for restrictions.
