Mosquitoes this year did more than take a bite out of your evening recreation. With nighttime restrictions in place in both Northborough and Southborough this fall, they also took a bite out of the fundraising efforts of Algoqnuin Boosters.
The Boosters, a volunteer organization that supports Algonquin athletic programs, normally raises much of its funds at evening sporting events through ticket and concession sales. But with football games moved from Friday night to Saturday afternoons this fall, attendance took a hit.
On Saturday night, local band Outta Commission, will lend the Boosters a hand. The band, which is made up of Southborough and Westborough residents, will donate a portion of the proceeds from its 10th Anniversary Halloween Masquerade Party to the Boosters.
“Most of the band members have children that have been, or are currently, student-athletes at Algonquin,” the band wrote in announcing the benefit show. “We decided to work together to use this event to raise money for our athletic programs. The Boosters will be running raffles and a portion of the door receipts will be allocated to the Boosters for their efforts.”
Band members include Kelli Wagner, Tom Barnes, Tim Lescalleet, George Taglieri, and Mark Kujawski from Southborough; and Steve Hummel from Westborough. The group features songs ranging from classic rock (Tom Petty, Rolling Stones, J Geils Band) to modern styles (The Black Eyed Peas, Maroon 5, and Pink).
