If you made a resolution to get healthy this year, the Boot Camp program sponsored by Southborough Recreation just might be the way to do it. A new session of the 10-week program starts on Monday, January 14.

The program, run by Southborough residents Michelle Labich and Lolly Brilliant, is designed for both advanced and beginner athletes. Workouts are full body and incorporate both strength and cardio, using equipment like medicine balls, Bosu balls, resistance bands and more.

The workouts are designed to get results, but just because it’s called “boot camp,” don’t expect a lot of yelling and military-style drills.

“People are intimidated by the term ‘boot camp’, but for most people who join our program, it becomes more than a workout,” Labich said. “Boot Camp participants become friends. They sweat together, they laugh together, and they get healthy together.”

Labich has been teaching fitness for almost ten years, and her partner Brilliant has more than 25 years of experience. Labich says that experience allows them to tailor workouts to match the skill level and objectives of each participant.

“Every person who joins Boot Camp has goals. For some it may be weight loss, for others it may be to gain strength. Whatever the reason they join, we try to support them and help them achieve their goals,” she said.

Boot Camp meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 6:00 to 7:00 am at the Trottier Middle School gym. The cost is $265, and the class runs through March 8.

If you’re not sure whether Boot Camp is the right fitness program for you, Labich invites you to try the first week for free. For more information on the program, or to register, visit the Southborough Recreation website at www.southboroughrecreation.com.

Boot camps are created to uncover the capacity and strength you never knew you possessed. It can be difficult and intense. When joining a fitness camp, be sure that your overall wellness is checked and standard fitness tested before starting.
