Southborough police report multiple vehicle break-ins this week

Several cars have been broken into this week in Southborough according to police. In one instance, a resident attempted to chase down two suspects he observed trying to break into a neighbor’s car. From the Southborough Police Department Facebook page:

Last night (01/21/13 at approx. 2058 hrs), a Walnut Drive resident observed two males attempting to break into their neighbor’s vehicle. The suspects were described as two white males; both approximately 5’8”- 5’10” tall. One was described as wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with red flannel pajama pants, and the other was reported to be wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Both were described as being in their late teens or early twenties.

The resident chased both suspects from the area, and one suspect was seen jumping into a waiting black sedan (that was parked at the end of Walnut Drive). The resident then called the Southborough Police Department, and officers responded to the area. The State Police K9 unit assisted Southborough police officers with the search for the second suspect involved in the attempted break in. Unfortunately, the officers on scene were unable to locate the suspect.

Today, residents from Oregon Road and Newton Street reported that their vehicles were broken into last night. Both reported that items were missing from their vehicles.

Police say they’re increasing neighborhood patrols, but advise residents to secure their vehicles. They also remind residents to be vigilant in reporting suspicious activity.

“We were hit hard over the summer with these motor vehicle break-ins, and we want to make sure that it doesn’t happen again,” said the department on Facebook.
