Most of us take shoes for granted. If we don’t, we’re likely focused on their style or comfort.
It’s hard to imagine not being able to give your children anything to protect their feet. For many families in Guatemala that’s a sad reality. But it’s something that local moms are trying to help change.
Southborough mothers are rallying the community to contribute shoes and socks to be shipped to Gautemala through Give & Teach. Earlier this week, they set up collection centers throughout town and schools with a deadline of yesterday.
If you missed that, you can still drop off contributions directly to 5 Sadie Hutt Lane in Southborough by Friday, June 28th.
They are looking for new socks and new or gently used shoes/sneakers appropriate for warm climates. (No crocs or flip flops please.) If you have used shoes to contribute, please make sure they are in good condition and the soles are clean.
The inspiration for this drive was the experience one resident’s former classmate shared:
We had the privilege of washing children’s feet and putting new socks and shoes on them. It was humbling. . . This was an enormous gift for these children and they were so grateful! I was in tears. It was quite an experience trying to clean little feet that do not have shoes to wear.
