This week, you can put your empty cans and bottles to good use. You can even have them picked up.
Patrick Mathon of Southborough is interning this summer with Boston’s DREAM. DREAM is a non-profit mentoring program that provides summer adventure activities and community recreation to children from low-income housing communities.
Mathon will be planning a fun field trip for the kids. (In past years, groups have gone to places like Six Flags or Kimball’s Farm).
To help raise funds he is running a can and bottle drive.
You can drop off your contributions (between now and Monday, July 8) at 5 Mooney Lane, Southborough, MA.
Or, you can coordinate with him to pick up donations. To set up a time, call Patrick Mathon at 774-249-9974 or e-mail patrick.mathon@yahoo.com.
So, for those of you who are celebrating with cookouts this week, drink up!
(Responsibly of course.)
Better yet, the Transfer Station should create a drop-off where those residents who have private trash pick-up can donated deposit cans and bottles to benefit charities. Keeping the bottle and can donation drop-off behind the sticker “pay wall” makes no sense. It shouldn’t cost the town a dime to open it up for sponsoring charities to collect donations. Better than giving the deposits to the private haulers or the state through escheatage.
