A lot of cultural happenings around town this week with authors, choral and cabaret singers, and a museum trip. Plus, Halloween celebrations start this week.

- Author Presentation (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: B.A. Shapiro will read from her best selling novel, The Art Forger, and discuss. This is part of the New England Author series sponsored by the Southborough Cultural Arts Council and the Friends of the Southborough Library. The free event is open to the public, no registration required.
- Senior Center Social Luncheon (12:00 – 1:00 pm) @ Senior Center: Join them for lunch and conversation. Suggested donation of $5 – Free if your birthday is this month. (Note: They asked for sign up by the Friday before.)
Tuesday, October 22, 2013:
- Classroom technology Parent Presentation (7:00 pm) @ Trottier School: This presentation for parents by an expert in the field of technology integration will be speaking about the ways in which using technology in this manner can transform teaching and learning. Open to all parents concerned about this subject.
- Fay School’s Evening Open House (7:00-8:30 pm) @ Fay House, 60 Main Street: Learn about Fay’s PreK-9 program and meet faculty. 7 PM Welcome Reception, 7:15 Tour, 7:45 Video Presentation & Panel Discussion. Questions? Contact Anique Seldon at 508-490-8201.
Wednesday, October 23, 2013:
- Fruitlands Museum Bus Trip (10:00 am – 3:00 pm) Bus leaves from the Senior Center: Suggested Donation of $10 for Friends member, $15 for non-members. 10:30 arrival at the Museum. Fruitlands Museum is a cluster of small historic buildings on the former site of the unsuccessful utopian community Fruitlands. Register at the Senior Center desk to attend.
- Mystery Author Panel (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: Authors Frankie Y. Bailey, Toni L.P. Kelner / Leigh Perry, and Barbara Ross will share their insights on the mystery writing creative process. The discussion will be moderated by Southborough resident and mystery writer Steve Ulfelder. This is part of the New England Author series sponsored by the Southborough Cultural Arts Council and the Friends of the Southborough Library. The free event is open to the public, no registration required.
- Fall Choral Concert (7:30 pm) @Algonquin Regional High School: ARHS choral groups will perform in their fall concert. Admission is $5 per adult or $3 per student/senior. NSMA members are free.

- Finn and Woodward schools early dismissal (12:00 pm) For parent-teacher conferences
- Underground Mammals (3:45 – 4:45 pm) @ Southborough Library: This event is for children ages 5-8 years old. Hands on Nature will teach children about about which mammals live underground and why, create an underground burrow, and let kids meet one. Please register at the Children’s Room desk or by calling the library. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
- Southborough Genealogy Club (7:00-8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: Everything You Need to Know About Autosomal DNA with Mike Maglio, professional genealogist.
Friday, October 25, 2013:
- Halloween Party for 12 and Under (7:00 – 8:30 pm) @ Finn School: Games, Arts and Crafts, Face Painting, and Treats. Costumes encouraged. Sponsored by Youth and Family Services. $5 admission or $15 per family.
Saturday, October 26, 2013:
- Special Brush Collection Day (8:00 am – 5:00 pm) @ Transfer Station: You must produce proof of residency and use residential vehicle
- REP Broadway Cabaret Concert (7:00 – 11:00 pm) @ Holiday Inn, Marlborough: River’s Edge Arts Alliance’s Annual Fundraiser/Silent Auction. Tickets are $35 for non-members and $30 for River’s Edge Arts Alliance members and can be ordered at upwitharts.simpletix.com or by calling our office 978-562-1646.
Sunday, October 27, 2013:
- AVRTHS’ Annual Ski and Snowboard Sale (10:00 am – 2:00 pm) @ Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School: Sale of both new and used clothing and equipment for downhill, cross country, and snowboarding. This event is sponsored by the AV Sliders club at Assabet Valley, and all proceeds go to the club’s transportation fund. Cash or checks only, no credit cards accepted.
- Family Farm Day (11:00 am) @ Breakneck Hill Conservation Land: Fundraiser for the Breakneck Hill Cow Fund. Walk the trails, hear about the history of the land, and play the Cow Pie Contest. $20/square can win $200.
- The annual Southborough Firefighter Association’s Halloween Parade (4:00 pm): Line up across from Mauro’s Market and march up East Main Street to the Fire Station.
