Earlier this fall, I promoted the Interboro’s Band call for new members. Unfortunately, I mistakenly gave the impression that the band was in danger of folding.
In fact, the band is in its 20th year and still going strong. This fall, they are excited to announce their new, but experienced, director Richard Romanoff:
A native of the Boston area, Romanoff has conducted the marching, concert and jazz bands for the Somerville Public Schools for the past 13 years as the director of bands. In addition, he has conducted the Charles River Wind Ensemble and the Fusion String Ensemble. Richard has also been an active member of the Massachusetts Music Educators’ Association as a senior and junior district band manager, audition adjudicator, and member.
As an active clarinetist, he has been the concertmaster for Charles River Wind Ensemble and a principal of the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra. Other performing engagements include the Newton Symphony, Lexington Sinfonietta, and numerous regional musical theatre pit orchestras.
He holds degrees in Music Education from the Boston Conservatory and Gordon College, both with honors.
The band is still looking for new members and in particular need of percussionists.
Membership is open to adults and students (grade 9 and up) who are able to play at a high school level. If you’re not sure of your level, come and sit-in on any rehearsal.
Practice is Monday nights from 7:30-9:15 through June in the band room at Trottier through September.
They are currently rehearsing for their free winter concert on January 19, 2:30 pm at Trottier Middle School. Other scheduled performances are the mid-June concert and the kickoff act for the Willow’s outdoor community concert series.
