Representative Dykema to Gaming Commission: Foxwoods Not A Suitable Business Partner for Taxpayers, Towns – October 29, 2013
Today Representative Carolyn Dykema (D-Holliston) sent a letter to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission highlighting reasons that Foxwoods is not a suitable business partner for the Commonwealth as it seeks to bring casino gambling to Massachusetts. (read more and see letter)
Senator Eldridge Announces Launch of Innovative Statewide Financial Coaching Services by Attorney General and Midas Collaborative

Senator Eldridge is pleased to announce a new initiative created by Attorney General Martha Coakley’s HomeCorps program and the Midas Collaborative to assist low and moderate income residents with financial stability and recovery. . .
“I’m pleased that Attorney General Coakley and the Midas Collaborative have provided this important new service for financially unstable residents across the Commonwealth,” said Senator Eldridge. “I hope that these families take advantage of this new program, as the holiday season approaches. AG Coakley’s HomeCorps program supports a wide variety of foreclosure prevention and mitigation services across the Commonwealth including loan modification assistance, free direct legal representation to distressed borrowers and post foreclosure stabilization assistance to families.” (read more)
Legislature sends housing bond bill to governor – November 8, 2013
The Senate and House passed final legislation authorizing $1.4 billion in capital spending over the next five years to fund the production and preservation of affordable housing in the Commonwealth.
“I am very pleased that the Senate and House voted to pass the housing bond bill,” said Senator James B. Eldridge (D-Acton), Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Housing. “This $1.4 billion bond will ensure that Massachusetts has the capacity to build and maintain affordable housing for residents across the Commonwealth and will expand access to safe and quality housing. I strongly believe the passage of the housing bond bill is a critical step toward assisting thousands of families currently living in full shelters and motels that has reached a human and moral crisis in our state.” (read more)
Governor Patrick Announces Over $73 Million to Build or Preserve 1,145 Housing Units Across Massachusetts
– November 18, 2013
Governor Deval Patrick today announced over $73 million in affordable housing resources and tax credits for projects in 17 communities across the state, building on the Patrick Administration’s commitment to improving housing infrastructure to support growth and opportunity throughout the Commonwealth. During the announcement, Governor Patrick signed H.3492, “An Act Financing the Production and Preservation of Housing for the Low and Moderate Income Residents.” . . .
“The Patrick Administration has taken a comprehensive approach to invest in the growth and expansion of our affordable housing stock for families across the Commonwealth,” said Senator Jamie Eldridge. “Projects such as the Putnam Square Apartments take strong steps to help reduce homelessness, create new job opportunities and strengthen our communities.” (read more)
