In December, Superintendent Dr. Charles Gobron announced he would be retiring at the end of this school year. Now the school committees are following through on their promise to survey the community prior to conducting a replacement search.
Today, the Superintendent sent out the following email:
Notification from: Public Schools of Northborough & Southborough
The members of the Northborough, Southborough, and Northborough-Southborough Regional School Committees are inviting parents and interested community members to participate in the following survey. The purpose of the survey is to gather input into the process of selecting a new Superintendent of Schools. Individual survey responses are confidential and can be viewed only by school committee members. The deadline for completing the survey is January 20, 2014.
The brief survey solicits feedback on qualities, skills, and experience people want to see in a superintendent.
It also asks for opinions on the district’s school system – such as strengths and areas for improvement.
Some of the questions surprised me. One question that jumped out:
Although there are currently no plans to change the administrative structure of our district, which administrative structure would you prefer?
- Keep the current structure (one superintendent for Northborough K-8, Southborough K-8, and Algonquin)
- Hire two superintendents (one for Northborough, one for Southborough, and a headmaster for Algonquin.
While the survey is confidential, they respondents are asked to indicate their relationship with the school system.
