If the Olympics got you pumped for winter sports, there’s still local drama to enjoy on the ice and snow. This week, Algonquin skiers and hockey players head into their tournaments.

If you prefer a warmer arena, Girls Basketball is also still in the mix.

The Alpine Ski tournament will run Tuesday at 9:30 am on Wachusett Mountain. Eight ARHS students are slated to race.

Girls Hockey is 19th seed going into preliminaries against 14th seed Martha’s Vineyard. They’ll play at MV’s arena, Wednesday at 4:30 pm.

5th seed Boys Hockey is paired with 4th seed Leominster for the quarter finals at Wallace Civic Center at 7:40 pm on Friday. If they triumph, they’ll have to face 1st seed Shrewsbury for the semis.

Girls Basketball heads into their first round after a strong season record of 14-6.

On Tuesday night at 7:00 pm, 6th seed team will enjoy a home court advantage. They’ll square off against 11th seed Concord-Carlisle. If they prevail, they’ll play 3rd seed Natick on their turf, Friday night at 7:00 pm.

Other winter sports [except wrestling] have come to an end.

Boys Basketball didn’t fare as well as girls. Their season ended 6-14.

Wrestling made an impressive show at the sectionals. Within their weight class, wrestlers won three 1st place, three 2nd place and 2 4th place spots. On Friday, the team ended its journey in 20th place at divisionals. [Actually, one wrestler continues the journey. A reader comment shares, “David Wrin placed 6th at the Divisional State Tournament and he advances to the All-State Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Tsongas Arena in Lowell.”]

Girls Gymnastics scored 7th at their sectionals.

For Indoor Track, Boys relay runners placed 10th and Girls 9th in their races at state this weekend.

Did I miss any postseason accomplishments? Please shout them out in the comments below.

Updated (2/25/14 4:55 pm): I incorrectly wrote that wrestling was done, when one wrestler is still battling on.

Updated (2/26/14 12:08 pm): Girls basketball won last night. They will play in the quarterfinals this Friday, 7:00 pm at Natick.

Correction: The journey for the wrestling team has not ended yet. David Wrin placed 6th at the Divisional State Tournament and he advances to the All-State Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Tsongas Arena in Lowell.
